Why additional accessories for the awning?

Maybe you have just invested in your awning and are now wondering why you also need accessories. What you really need and what you do not need always depends on your needs and ideas. Nevertheless, it must be clearly said that some products can influence the longevity of your awning and therefore pay off in many cases in the long run. Other products serve more decorative purposes, but can help turn the area in front of your motorhome or caravan into an additional “living room” where you can feel completely at home. Below you will find accessory ideas sorted by intended use.

Always check in advance whether the relevant accessories are compatible with your awning or brand.

Securing the awning during storms and rain

Wind and storms can be a real problem for an awning. You can counteract this – at least to a certain extent. You can also do something about the typical “water pockets” that form in the rain.

General information about securing awnings can be found here.

An additional tensioning rod ensures optimum water drainage in the rain. This also protects the awning fabric in the long term. Make sure it is suitable for your awning or can be used universally.

You can achieve a similar effect if you additionally secure the rod with tensioning straps. This increases the tension of the roof surface and reduces water pocket formation.

Here you can find the Berger roof tensioning tool in the Berger online shop.

Black bag, two spring carabiner clips, two padded straps with metal hooks, two short fabric straps, and two long flat metal pieces on a white background

In addition, classic storm protection is recommended. It stabilises the frame in stronger winds, reduces the flapping of the awning fabric and thus helps prevent wear of the material.

Here you can find all storm tie-down kits in the Berger online shop.

With an awning that has a small gap to the vehicle wall, moisture can get under the roof when it rains. A special rain seal provides a remedy.

You also have the option of using awning foot weights. These ballast hoses are filled with water and attached to the awning poles. They are used for stabilisation and are especially useful on hard surfaces.

Here you can find the Peggy Peg awning foot weights in the Berger online shop.

Awning clamps reduce the flapping of the awning fabric. The fabric is not damaged and they can be fitted to almost all awning systems.

In the video, you can see how the Peggy Peg Fix & Go Anti Flap awning clamp is attached.

Lighting for the awning

Light is a must-have if you want to sit together comfortably in the evening. Especially if you still want to read or play a game, candlelight is usually not enough. A distinction must be made between decorative lighting that creates a cosy atmosphere and lights that provide plenty of brightness.

You can easily attach an LED awning light to the underside of the awning. Aluminium profiles are usually available for this purpose and can simply be slid in. Awning lights provide pleasant illumination on long nights.

The Dometic LED awning light shown is 3.5 metres long and works very easily via a 12-volt connection.

Here you can find awning lighting in the Berger online shop.

Fairy lights create a cosy atmosphere, but only provide limited brightness. They are powered either by electricity or batteries. They are also available as a solar version.

Here you can find fairy lights and other lamps in the Berger online shop.

Awning extension for sun and privacy protection

Would you like a little more privacy or even better protection from sun, wind and rain? Then conventional awning side walls are usually the first choice. But there are also other products that serve these purposes. General information about awning tents can be found in this blog post.

White motorhome with gray awning; two windows, open entrance; table and two chairs inside the awning; grassy area and body of water in the background, clear sky

Side walls can be used individually or step by step to create an awning tent.

Please note that the side panels must fit your awning.

Here you can find awning tents and side panels for many awnings in the Berger online shop.

Stretched canvas awning on metal poles over a table with a white tablecloth in tall grass; two people seated at the table; trees in the background

A privacy screen is, depending on the model, windproof and waterproof. If you make sure when buying that the material is also translucent, the area under the awning will not become too dark. A privacy screen is usually simply slid into the front profile for attachment.

Accessories for an awning tent

Are you not only the proud owner of an awning, but also of an awning tent? Then I can especially recommend two products that make the additional living space even cosier. Here you can find awning accessories in the Berger online shop.

Window frame with white curtains patterned with black squares; in the window the sea and sky at the horizon

Curtains turn a place into a real living space. So why not add curtains to the awning tent as well? They can also serve as a privacy screen. They are simply attached using curtain keder.

Silver metal rod with a black plastic end on a white background

With a veranda pole, you can open the awning windows to the desired position and ventilate the tent. As the name suggests, this basically creates a veranda.

Here you can find veranda poles in the Berger online shop.

Other awning accessories

There are more and more products on the market designed to make campers’ lives easier. This also leads to unusual ideas time and again. I find the following two products particularly clever and creative.

Red-and-white checkered blouse on a clothesline held at the top by two hands; to the left a red cloth, metal hooks, awning rail, trees in the background

Awning hooks allow you to hang laundry, organisers or other items on the awning. In many cases, this is practical and space-saving.

Here you can find the awning hooks shown (Fiamma Kit Awning Hangers) in the Berger online shop.

White-gray motorhome with extended awning, parked on a paved surface; bushes on the right, field and trees in the background

With these two suction cups, you can attach the awning supports to the wall of the caravan or motorhome. This is especially practical if you are on a hard surface such as paving or asphalt, where pegs cannot be used for fastening.

Here you can find the Multianker suction cups in the Berger online shop.

Conclusion: small helpers for the awning

There is now a wide range of useful accessories that prepare your awning for almost any situation. Even if some products are not useful for every camper, it is still worth getting an overview and finding out what suits you and your needs best.
