Which types of camping toilets are there?
High-quality motorhomes often have complete bathrooms with shower facilities and camping toilet built in. Since not every camper has a fully equipped motorhome and during stays in nature the private toilet may not be missing, there are camping toilets in the following variants:- portable toilet: Portable toilets are so-called bucket toilets or folding toilets, also known as Porta Potti. These dry toilets are especially suitable for trips into the wild nature, where usually no sanitary facilities are available.
- Chemical toilets: For frequent use or for longer camping trips chemical toilets are suitable, which are available as built-in model or as mobile toilet. Alternatively, there are chemical toilets with a flush mechanism, where fresh water comes from a separate tank.
How to clean camping toilets?
Portable toilets or Porta Potti must be emptied after each use. Proper disposal is mandatory and faeces do not belong in the street gully or in nature. There are disposal stations for camping toilets at gas stations or at campsites.A chemical toilet has a built-in waste-water tank which must be filled with a special liquid from the sanitary accessories range. In this way, the faeces decompose and the toilet is disinfected and bad odours also disappear. The waste-water tank of a chemical toilet has an average capacity of around 15 to 20 litres.
