Product description
For 3,800 years, the Maya have used natural pine kindling as candles and fire starters. These small pieces of wood have a high resin content, which burns more easily and more intensely than paper, wax, and other fire starters. To start a fire outdoors, simply shave off a few shavings from the tinder stick with the back of a knife and ignite them with a fire steel. These fire starters are harvested from the stumps of the “Pino del Ocote.” For a short time, resin rises from the roots into the stump. The stump is split by hand into small pieces. These pieces are sorted by hand and then packaged. Maya Sticks are an excellent fire starter made from non-endangered trees that are not found in rainforests and were not felled specifically for this purpose.
