Product description

From the content
Introduction, Country and people (including geology and history), Travel information from A to Z, Driving, The Ring Road, Capital Reykjavík, The Golden Circle, Round trip Reykjanes Peninsula, Round trip Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Alternative route Húsavík, Ásbyrgi, Dettifoss.

about the authors
Erik Van de Perre, born in 1965, graduated in geology from the University of Ghent in Belgium in 1988. In the summer of 1993, he toured the volcanic island by bicycle for the first time, "to find out what it's like to live on an island full of ticking time bombs." It was the first of many trips to Iceland that would take him to the far corners of the country. Today, he lives in Kiel as a freelance author and photojournalist, preferring to report on volcanic areas and the Scandinavian region. He has already written several hiking guides for Conrad Stein Verlag.

Brief description
Iceland, known as the "Island of Fire and Ice," continues to grow in popularity as a vacation destination. Nowhere in Europe can the traveler get so close to the elemental forces of our earth: Volcanism, enormous glaciers, hot springs, famous geysers, imposing waterfalls, magnificent mountain landscapes, deeply cut fjords, but also barren and deserted highlands characterize this landscape and its people.

The culturally interested can visit the sites from the world of the sagas and the birthplace of the Icelandic parliament, which is over a thousand years old. The nature lover will also marvel at the island's unimaginably rich bird life and perhaps experience the country from the back of an Icelandic horse

This book is designed for travelers who want to get to know Iceland with their own vehicle or a rental car in two to three weeks. It basically describes the National Road 1 (also called Ring Road or Hringvegur in Icelandic) kilometer by kilometer in the style of a logbook, with detours or alternative routes to places of interest.
