INFORMATION ON SPANISH WARNING SIGN
Anyone travelling by car to neighbouring European countries should familiarise themselves with the traffic regulations of the destination countries before travelling.
This applies not only to destination countries, but also to transit countries. The rules that apply in other European countries can be very different to the rules of home.
For example, in Spain, it is a legal requirement to attach a warning sign for cargo securing (mobile home, caravan and car) .
The warning sign must meet specific requirements.
The warning sign must be standardised and used in the cases specified by law according to traffic regulations (implementing regulations) .
According to the design specifications, a square sheet covered in a reflective material must be affixed to the end of the projecting loading part in such a way that the reflection strips are always pointing towards the direction of travel.
In Spain, the warning sign must:
- have 3 red / 3 white shaded reflective stripes
- have a size of 50 x 50 cm
- be made of aluminium and have 4 eyelets punched for attachment
- have a black, embossed border
The warning sign must be attached if, for example,
- a bicycle rear carrier (loaded or unloaded) is fitted, even in a folded condition,
- or when an object (surfboard, etc.) is transported on the roof rack and this projects over the rear bumper.
- Whenever a load protrudes beyond the total length of the vehicle (refer to vehicle registration certificate, no protrusions at the front of the vehicle allowed) , "all suitable safety measures must be taken to ensure that other road users are not endangered" - therefore there is always a signage requirement.
Incidentally, a violation of this rule is subject to a fine of over € 65.00!
