Driving Licence
To move a motorhome or a caravan in road traffic, you need the appropriate driving licence.
Those who obtained their driving licence before 1999 are allowed to drive vehicles with a total weight of up to 7.5 tonnes or caravans up to 18.5 tonnes with class 3.
From the age of 50 onwards, only hitched vehicles with a maximum weight of 12 tonnes may be driven with a class 3 driving licence.
Anyone who has obtained a driving licence after 1999 may drive vehicles and combinations with a maximum total weight of 3.5 tonnes with a class B driving licence.
For heavier combinations, class B96 (up to 4.25 tonnes) or class BE (towing vehicle and trailer each max. 3.5 tonnes) is required.
For large motorhomes up to 7.5 tonnes, driving licence class C1 or C1E is required.
